A Birthday Prayer For Dad
by Rev. Martha Quintana, Senior Minister

Today is my Dad’s birthday. His name is Orlando and he would have been 91. Although he passed away over 40 years ago, I still miss him. I would have loved knowing him as an adult and I’m sorry I didn’t get more time with him. Today’s prayer is for Orlando and all the Dads who have left this plane. Happy Birthday, Dad!

There is One Life, One Infinite Life that stretches beyond time into infinity; that encompasses everything. This Life, the one I call God, is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent; more brilliant than any light our eyes can see and more amazing than anything we can imagine. God is Life, Love, Peace, Presence, Joy, Beauty, and Happiness. God is.

Because God is, I am. I am one with Infinite Life and I stretch beyond time into infinity. My life encompasses all because it is made of the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent energy of all. I am life, love, peace, presence, joy, beauty, and happiness. I am. As I know this for me, I know this for Orlando. Orlando is infinite life. He is wholly and fully aligned with the One and knows grace so profoundly that he rides a cloud like a wave of water and flies on eagle wings today. Orlando is no longer bound by the physical and he is free to be life, love, peace, presence, joy, beauty, and happiness. He simply is.

Today I affirm Orlando’s life. I affirm everything he stood for and all that he desired for his life. I affirm his family, his children, his brothers and sisters, his mother and father, uncles and aunts, grandparents, nieces and nephews, and all his friends. Orlando’s life is full, and he is free. He visits daily with his loved ones. Finally, I affirm that the love he has for us and we for him is a bridge of communication. Nothing is ever lost. I do know him as an adult. I hear his wisdom all the time.

I am grateful for Orlando, grateful for his love and guidance. I am grateful for his laughter, his curiosity, his wisdom, and the way he could cut to the chase. I am grateful he brought people together in fun ways and I am happy he lived. Without him, I would not be who I am. For this, I am most thankful.

With a happy heart, I wish Dad a happy birthday, and release this prayer into the ethers where I know it finds him. Y asi es! Amen.
