A Prayer from our Ancestors

A Prayer from our Ancestors
by Rev. Martha Quintana, Senior Minister

“This is the Earth, healed again, growing green and blue I want you to remember this exactly as it is, and then go and tell the people that if enough of us hold this image in their minds, we can heal the Earth and make it like it was a long time ago.”
– Grandfather Rolling Thunder, Cherokee Medicine Elder

There is One Life, One Universe, which I call Creator. The Creator exists in all of Its creation. Creator breathes and a planet is born. She breathes and a Universe shakes loose complete with stars and life. Creator breathes in the cry of the newborn babe and she breathes back the person whose last breath is happening now. Creator breathes and all people everywhere live. As each person calls their own Creator, each know what the Creator is – Joy, Love, Beauty, Truth, Harmony, and Health.

I call my own Creator now and remember my own joy, love, beauty, truth, harmony, and health. As I know this divine essence for me, I know it for the person reading this prayer. I know it, too, for every person in the world and for the Earth itself. The knowing of the Creator calls the entire planet back into balance.

I affirm and declare peace on Earth, a peace so profound that it restores the waters of the world. Rivers run clean and the Oceans support the vast life contained therein. I affirm and declare clean air, good food, and enough for everyone. The planet, which is our mother, supports each of us as health, abundance, and goodness. People all over the world put down their arms and we are, once again, born to a life that is healing.  I call on all the Ancestors to join us in this prayer and know that our children, grandchildren, and all generations yet to be born are safe in the arms of Earth. This is love.

Thank you, God. Thank you, Ancestors. I am grateful for our healthy earth. I am grateful for all people who know peace in their hearts and look to a world filled with goodness. I am grateful for all people who nurture their families and communities, and I know, with a faith so deep, that our prayers as peace are already transforming this world. I am grateful for all the ancestors and, especially, my own – my mother, my father, and all the mothers and fathers before them. I am grateful for my child, my husband, my brothers and sisters, and spiritual family. I am held in love and I am happy.

With a happy heart, I release my word to all the World knowing that this prayer is already made manifest. And so it is. Amen.
