As Winter Retreats…

As Winter Retreats…
by Greg Gardner, RScP

As the coolness of winter begins its slow retreat, I notice those tell tail signs that life returns to the earth today:

  • The slow diminishment of the mountain snows
  • The small shoots of my daffodils peeping through the soil
  • The warmth of the sun bringing life to the earth again
  • More snow melt flowing in the Rio Grande
  • Citizens cleaning out the acequia
  • Daylight savings time returns with its insistence that I notice the return of the sun

I am aware that the earth refreshes itself through the dim, cold winter days and nights and is now ready to, once again, burst forth with its joyous song of life.

I know that all around, Spirit is creating itself in this celebration I call life.  I feel Spirit affirming itself as the song of new birds, pups foals and cubs birthing, the faint green tinge to the bosque.

I know all this is Creator reminding itself that I am surrounded by a creative power so profound, so pervasive, so everywhere that I cannot hold it in my brain for more that a few precious moments.

In these few precious moments, I am grateful.

And so it is.  Amen.
