Choose Again: Return to Peace
by Nancy Bowers, RScP
Here within this duality we call life there is choice: up, down, slow, fast, loose, tight – a world of seeming opposites. Yet, at the heart of it is Oneness. The rest is just interpretation of experience. I call that Oneness God. It is Light and Love and Purity. It is Absolute and being so, forever creates a positive from a seeming negative, for God is Eternal Goodness and it is to His bosom I return when I have lost my peace. God is Unconditional Love and it is to this I turn when I need to find my way back home to Him.
There is a prayer from A Course in Miracles I sometimes repeat to help me.
“I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace.
I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise.
I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace.
I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of my wrong decision if I will let Him.
I choose to let Him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.” ~A Course in Miracles, T-5.VII.6
I breathe in this prayer and find my peace. I know that despite my tendency to judge myself, God still loves me. I know that despite my ideas of what I think other people ought to be doing, God still loves them. So I align myself with the Eternal Goodness of God. I let go of what I think I know. I allow the Holy Spirit to undo all the consequences of my wrong decision. I am willing and I surrender. I choose again by allowing God to decide for me. I choose love, not fear. I choose love.
And I give thanks that I never have to go it alone, that God is forever with me. I give thanks for all my brothers and sisters, for I know God is forever with them, too. I know they are but a mirror, the places I still need to heal and I give thanks that God in His gentleness sent me this opportunity for love.
Then I let go. I release my prayer knowing that God always hears me and that it is already done. And So It Is. Amen.
