In the Oneness
by Nancy Bowers, RScP
“The first thing to do is to recognize your unity with the great Universal Expression. When you get a clear concept of your oneness with it you will be able to differentiate between human impulse and divine urge. In the former, you will see that only the smaller self will benefit through the fulfillment of your desire; in the latter, you will discover that what benefits you will also be beneficial to all.” ~ Ernest Holmes, Questions and Answers on the Science of Mind
“I do not know what anything is for.” Lesson 25, A Course in Miracles (ACIM, W-25)
Lately, I’ve been practicing “being in the Oneness,” which to me means that I have paused to sink into that space where I recognize my connection to everything and everyone. A Course in Miracles reminds me that “Love created me like itself,” which means we are ALL made from Love and are all here to “teach only love, for that is what you are.” That awareness returns my mind to the Divine, and allows me to feel the pulse of perfection available in this moment. It is a reminder that the truth of who we are is love. But I cannot connect to it if my mind is full of judgment, preconceived ideas, or even if I think I know anything intellectually. When I give up thinking I know what anything is for, it is easier to return to Oneness. My beliefs, like yours, are really just ideas that I have endorsed as “truth.” But in actuality, they are just ideas that resonate with me and that I have adopted as my personal lantern. My beliefs probably don’t match yours, though they may be similar. Or they may not. None of that matters when we are in the Oneness.
When I connect with that Divine Love, when I give up thinking I know what anything is for, there is so much more room for different perspectives. I don’t have to understand or agree, I just need to allow the space for others to be in their own experience however they chose to do that. When I don’t think I know, when I let go of ego (that part of the mind that needs to be right), than I can make peace my guiding light. Does what I think give me peace or does it rob me of it? Am I teaching love or am I attacking?
In the Oneness, where all that matters is love. God is Love. Deep and replenishing, soulful and joyous: it is a Love so deep that the only response possible is deep gratitude. As I call this Love in, I connect with my True Self. I see your True Self. I bathe my awareness is it and there is only room for Peace. In this Peace, all ideas of right or wrong, good or bad, just or unjust fall away. Here there is only Love. Love is Peace. Peace is Joy is Goodness is God. How good it feels!
Thank you, God, for this Oneness. Thank you for Harmony. Thank you for Peace, for Love, for the Truth that You Are. I let go by stepping back and allowing Love to lead the way. It is actually so much easier and so much more enjoyable. And so it is. Amen.
