It’s OK to notice.
It’s alright to hug for a long time the man whose partner just died.
It’s alright to care about children
you don’t even know.
You feel sad, your heart breaks.
It’s why you want to reach out to the acquaintance who is dying.
I care = you matter.
So many wonder their whole lives,
do I matter? We can say yes.
And what to do?
Today, in June, I roasted a turkey,
the bird of abundance, a giver.
With whom can I share it?
Some of my children will come,
A sick neighbor needs food.
Scraps will be left for the dog.
I am the conduit of the Spirit’s bounty.
I am God’s hands, her talents.
Who will care if not me, if not you?
Who will hug? Who will cry? Who will pray?
When I pray that god is love
the miracle is that love comes
through me, to me, as me.
