Love after Love

Love after Love
by Rev. Martha Quintana, Senior Minister

“The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.”
– Derek Walcott

This prayer is for the love of your self.

There is One Love, so pervasive, so inclusive that all It knows is Itself. In this knowing, this Love creates. It delights and from Its delight, all creation is born – stars, planets, all beings in every dimension, the universe. Love imbues all its creation with Itself and, and as such, each person on the planet knows him/herself.

I am made of this knowing. Love created me and I am one with all that it is – peace, harmony, happiness, joy, beauty, health. I align with this knowing so completely and profoundly that all else falls away. I am left standing in the wake of love. As I accept this knowing for me, I know it for all loves who read this prayer.

I affirm and declare self love. I put down any criticism, longing, anxiety, fear, and know that the entire universe has my back. I walk in the faith of love and know that each time I surrender, I am taken back into the arms of love. In this moment, I surrender and I know.  I forgive myself and others, and I know. I am alive in the absolute preciousness of the creator, and I know.  This return to my self is a celebration and I am forgiven for having strayed. I am forgiven for all the times I was relentless in my own unforgiveness and my words cut my own heart. I am so sorry.  I surrender again to the love of self and know that my true self is revealed beautifully and magnificently.

Thank you, God. Thank you, Love. This is a good day and I feast on my life. I am happy, in love, and walk in the power as faith. Knowing all is well, I release my word back into the Law and know this prayer is complete.  And so it is. Amen.
