Policies and guidelines for adult education—Rio Grande CSL

Policies and guidelines for adult education—Rio Grande CSL

Classes are open to all.  The Foundation class or Beyond Limits are the prerequisite courses for all subsequent accredited UCSL courses.  After taking either of these courses students may take other courses in any order.  Non-accredited classes have no requirements.  Those students who feel called to Practitioner training will be able to complete all underlying prerequisite courses in a two year time frame.

It is possible that a class may be cancelled even after registration begins.  In the event that this occurs, the pre-registered students will be notified immediately.  If any tuition has been paid, it will be refunded..

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

All courses have attendance requirements. Two absences are permitted per class. If a further absence is anticipated, for business or another known commitment, the instructor must give permission and will require make-up work.  Three absences, without notification in advance, will result in the student not being able to successfully complete the course.  Notification must be given to the instructor as soon as a potential absence is known.  Refunds will not be authorized after the third class unless approved by the Education Director.

NOTE: For Practitioner Training, one absence per 10 weeks is permitted.

All homework and financial requirements must be taken care of before the last class, unless other arrangements are made with the instructor.  Any modifications to scheduled classes after the class begins will be discussed within the class and agreed upon by both students and the instructor.  In the event that a student is unable to follow the request of the instructor or the majority of the class, the instructor will be responsible to assure all students have adequate support with the class work missed.  The instructor makes the final decision on the successful completion of a class.

PAYMENT PLANS

Full payment before the class begins or in the first class will entitle the student to a $25 “Early Bird” discount. A payment plan may be arranged with the approval of the instructor or the Adult Education director.  The student will be asked to formalize the financial arrangement by signing a contract.    Classes must be paid in full before the last class before a certificate of completion is issued or before a student may register for another course.

Education Ministry Refund Policy

Refunds are available when the class has been paid prior to or at the beginning of the class sessions, based on the following:

Students who attend the first class and have paid the full tuition are entitled to a full refund if they formally give notice of their intent to withdraw after the first session and before the second session. Students must notify the teacher or an assistant that they are dropping the class. The student workbook must be returned to the teacher. If the student wishes to keep the workbook the cost of the workbook will be deducted from the refund.

All refunds are prorated on a per class basis (except the first class if the drop occurs before the second class), based on the number of classes elapsed. If the student drops in week 2 or week 3 the refund will be pro-rated on a per class basis.  There is no refund if the drop occurs after week 3. A student who simply stops coming to class is not entitled to a refund several weeks or months later.

If Practitioner Training (30 Week classes) is dropped after six (6) weeks, a partial refund may be given with approval of the Education Director.

If additional installment payments (or prorated portion) are due the Center at the time the student drops, those payments must be made within 2 weeks of dropping the class. If any amount due remains unpaid, the student may not enroll in any additional classes until all tuition is paid.

The $10.  registration fee is non-refundable.

Sample refund:
$200 for 10-week class = $20 per class.
Student dropped after third class and before fourth and turned in a re-usable workbook.
$200 for 10 week class=$20/class

Class Assistants/Scholarships

Each teacher may opt to offer one scholarship per class.  The assistant will be expected to pay for the workbook, the registration fee of $45 for UCSL, and the RGCSL portion of tuition.  Essentially, the teacher is forgoing their income.  The assistant can assist in class with registration, recording attendance and payments, setting up the classroom and setting up an email group for the class.

Interested students need to make their requests known to the instructor of the class preferably one (1) week prior to the first class.  The instructor has the authority to approve or deny the request and makes the final decision in the event that multiple requests are received.  This scholarship arrangement is held in total confidence.

Class Auditing Policy

Students who have successfully completed any certificated class may take the same class again on an audit basis  within 3 years of the prior class date. When the prior class is beyond the 3 year timeframe the student will be required to pay the full price for the class.  Classes may be audited as many times as desired.

  • A student auditing a class pays one half of the established tuition plus the price of the workbook.
  • Auditing students are requested to do all homework assignments and projects.
  • The new date of successfully completing the class will be entered in the student’s record in the RGCSL database and will be used as the reference for time requirements between classes.
