The Divine Mansion
by Rev. Kamatara Johnson
When I was growing up, I wondered why Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions” (John 14:2). My priest told me that “my Father’s house” was heaven and that it had many mansions because it was more than just a few rooms in a house; it was exponential to say mansions with rooms upon rooms-houses upon-houses. And, mansions implied a vast richness to it all. That was the promise of heaven and the reward in the “next life.”
In my adulthood, with a metaphysical perspective, I know that the heaven of “my Father’s house” is here, to the extent that I see it and realize the heaven of this moment. If we are infinite, eternals beings, then there is no later or the next life. Heaven is now.
And WE are the mansions of the Divine. The rooms in my mansion reflect the qualities of the Divine that make the composite of me. I am an expression of the Divine in the here and now and the before and after this.
So, I consider this week, what qualities of the Divine would I like to make room for? What addition to my mansion of experience would I like to have? I’m building space for more compassion, joy, and creativity these days. How about you?
And when I forget that I am the I AM, I remind myself that: I AM A MANSION OF THE DIVINE. I am the place where the Divine is experienced and so are you. I am aligned with the Divine that is the presence and power within. And then the mansion of myself lights up with the power of the Divine, and I know that I am living in the lavish abundance of heaven right now. And so it is.
