In the Quiet of Winter

In the Quiet of Winter
by Rev. Kamatara Johnson, Director of Collaborative Ministries

In this quiet time of Winter, the barren trees are still flowing with Divine Energy unseen in the roots.  I too am still and quiet, stripped down to my Essential Self in this time of reflection, rooted in the Divine. As I enter into the stillness, I know who and what I am: an expression of the One Loving Source in the here and now.

So, I allow myself to BE first and DO second, if at all. I let go of the hustle and bustle of the season. I don’t buy into the hype and the hoopla.  I look to the winter trees and stand my ground in the stillness of the moment. My relentless thoughts blow away like the last of the Fall leaves, and I am at peace. I refuse to engage with the outer craziness of the holiday season and society’s pressures, but rather dwell with the inner Spirit, recognizing the God in me and the God in you. I allow my life to unfold each day this week with ease and grace and mindful attention to the Presence that is.

I appreciate this gift of quietude and grace. I give thanks for the extra hours of dark that help me to turn inward and be still. I look to the trees and remember what to do in this Wintertime of potential chaos. I’m so grateful to surrender all that chaos; it is not my way of being or doing. I remember my Truth and give thanks for peace and joy fostered in this quiet time of reflection.

With complete faith, I release this prayer into the Law, knowing Spirit is ever-present in the stillness. I let it all go and let it be. And so it is.
