Maintaining Faith, During Uncertain Time
by Lovater Harris Jones, RScP

“Faith is a mental attitude, so inwardly embodied that the mind can no longer deny it.” SOM, Page 722
At this very moment our country and the entire world is gripped with fear because of the COVID-19 virus. It has changed our way of living….staying inside, washing our hands several times daily, sanitizing everything, distancing ourselves from others and everything we can think of to keep ourselves and family safe from this virus! People are dying by the thousands! Despite all of our efforts, and managing to stay healthy and alive, the uncertainty of who’s next allows fear to creep into our consciousness. All the while we realize that “fear is the antithesis of faith.” Fear, if it is to be removed from our thoughts, must be done consciously; either through prayer, meditation and a strong belief system.
Our Science of Mind teachings reminds us that fear and faith CANNOT co-exist; either faith is what we believe in or we believe in fear! “Faith IS the power of prayer.” “Faith is a mental attitude which is so convinced of its own idea that any contradiction is unthinkable.” Despite this TRUTH, we contemplate our current uncertainties…..when are we getting back to our regular routines? When are we allowed to get back to work, for those who work outside the home? When are we able to shop without distancing ourselves from the shopper next to us in line? When, when, when, when?
Our faith/belief must firmly rest in the Truth that God/Spirit the Divine One…is certain, steady, absolute, knows all things, fills ALL space AND forever lives in each of us. God is always there for us to lean/rely on!
The Bible says “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). The substance this verse speaks of is tangible, visible and solid – “the things not seen (invisible) becomes visible….ALL BASED on our belief/faith.
As we SURRENDER all concerns to Spirit, let’s KNOW that our strength rests in the belief that “This too shall pass.”
“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” II Corinthians 4:18
In these times of uncertainty, LET’S DECLARE WITH ALL ASSUREDNESS THAT THIS TOO SHALL PASS!
