Pinpoints of Light in an Oftentimes Dark World

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
What are we called to do? I ask myself that frequently these days, and that is generally when I turn to prayer. So let’s pray together.
I accept and know that there is a Divine Presence dwelling within and without, that knows more than I can ever possibly know. This totality and essence of Life goes by many names, and today I call It Love. As I turn within and wonder what is mine to do, I remember to focus on three guiding principles— acceptance, trust, and surrender. In the first step of acceptance, I choose to accept all that is going around me, not by burying my head in the sand, and yet not by becoming overly obsessed by the constant drone of negativity. I allow myself to grieve the injustices that I see, the erosion of the proud values our country once stood for, that seem to have faded. I accept that I still have a role to play. And then I turn to trust. I trust that my being can be a pinpoint of Light to lift someone’s spirit, to applaud someone’s courage, and to be a reminder that each of us always makes a difference in our world. In some measure, I trust that in the end all will be well, and it is this hope that brings me solace. Finally, I learn to surrender my limited view of how things “should” play out. I surrender my fear, my anger, and my attachment to any specific outcome. As I surrender into the arms of Love, I become a pinpoint of light, part of that greater Light which guides us all. Grateful to be a part of the process, I place these words into Infinite Law, that I believe and trust knows the way.
