Assumption Reset: Noticing the Mind’s Shenanigans
by Nancy R. Bowers, RScP

“Neuroscience shows that the brain predicts before it perceives, meaning your expectations determine what you notice long before reality reaches your awareness.” ~ Srivastava, Anushka. Identity Mechanics: The Science and Psychology of Mastering Manifestation (p. 11). Kindle Edition.
“And until you understand how perception functions, you will think you are reacting to life, when in truth life is reacting to the lens through which you are viewing it.” ~Srivastava, Anushka. Identity Mechanics: The Science and Psychology of Mastering Manifestation (p. 13). Kindle Edition.
“You stop asking whether something is reasonable or likely and begin asking whether it is aligned with the version of you you’re becoming. That question alone opens a different world – one in which you stop shrinking to match your fears and begin expanding to match your potential.” ~Srivastava, Anushka. Identity Mechanics: The Science and Psychology of Mastering Manifestation (p. 24). Kindle Edition.
“…Your emotions are not telling you what reality is – they are telling you what you believe reality means.” ~ Srivastava, Anushka. Identity Mechanics: The Science and Psychology of Mastering Manifestation (p. 26). Kindle Edition.
Lately, I have been noticing how frequently I brace. I check to make sure I’m not being scammed. I concoct imaginary conversations that argue for what I want. I defend my actions. Noticing what I think that means, I remind myself of what A Course in Miracles tells me – I’ve given everything the meaning that it has for me. I notice that I am assuming I will have to do battle to get what I want. In many situations, I notice that my default assumes the need for defense. I’m forgetting that I control which voice I pay attention to. I am forgetting that my expectations are the attractors of what happens next. Attention stimulates growth. Am I placing it on the things I want more of or am I strengthening dread?
Oh my. Seems I need to do a mind-reset. Time to pray.
In this present moment, the only moment there is, I pause and bring my attention back to now. I recognize the Power and Presence in, through, and around me. I remember that I am one with this Presence. I recall that what God is, I am. I am the love, the peace, the beauty, the grace, the kindness, the bounty and the complete embodiment of the creativity of Spirit. My life is a reflection of my assumptions about being. It is limited to the extent that I limit it. My potential is as grand as my ability to allow God to work through me. My fears are the boundary of my expansion. My trepidations are the governor determining how quickly I advance.
Then I remember, there is nowhere to go and nothing to do. There is only beingness and how I show up to express that.
I choose. My choice is the driver of my experience. What I choose is birthed in my assumptions about life. Do I know that the universe is conspiring in my favor? Do I remember that there is no external force to blame? I choose peace. I choose joy. I choose to take full responsibility for my life, remembering that I am the observer who assigns meaning.
God is all there is. Am I treating life as the sacred something going on? Am I seeing the brethren as the Holy creatures that they are? Do I remember that what I see in you is a mirror of who I am being?
I surrender into the Love. It is the only Truth I know when I am fully present. It is the breath that returns life to serenity.
It is mine, the moment I choose it. And so, I do. And so. it is. Amen.
